Wrapper Winchcomb (Glos) to 'Mr Browne Golden Cross Charing Cross London' with fine to very fine 1d grey-black pl.8 (SG3) lettered QG with four good to large margins, tied very fine black Maltese Cross of Cheltenham. Wrapper slight ageing, on front very fine strike WINCHCOMB udc in black (GL887). On reverse CHELTENHAM date stamp MR 22 1841. The 'Golden Cross' was a celebrated and well known inn very close to Charing Cross. (Ref 119971).
