    1803 MAIL JAMAICA TO RICHMOND SURREY LANDED AT SWANAGE WITH 'SWANAGE' STRAIGHT LINE USED INSTEAD OF SWANAGE SHIP LETTER HAND STAMP. Fine wrapper from Kingston Jamaica dated 25th Jany 1803 to 'Mrs Isabella Dundas Richmond Surrey' with manuscript 'p the Ship William and Henry' which landed at Swanage where a good to fine strike of the 'SWANAGE' straight line hand stamp in black was struck (DT576) as no Swanage ship letter hand stamp was available until 1818. Letter was then forwarded to Poole where a good strike of the unframed two line 'POOL/SHIP LRE' hand stamp was struck in black. On reverse London date stamps AP 1 1803. Rare usage. (Ref 119797).
