1840 JOHN LEECH CARICATURE/LITHOGRAPH. A good example of the very rare broadsheet produced by Leech in 1840 (332 x 244mm) in black on thick white wove paper and printed by Fores of Piccadilly. Margins trimmed at sides and some soiling, mainly on reverse but a rare example of his original design. This original design shows a very happy Britannia, at upper right a small boy dancing with delight and at upper left a girl with her hair in curl papers in the throws of competition. Absent is the monkey in uniform seated upon the lion but has printed imprint at lower centre 'This Design has (most respectfully of course) been submitted to Government by an aspiring Artist and then Mul-led-al-ready.'. (Ref 119781).
