1840-41 MATCHED TRIO 1D BLACKS PL.1A (SG3), PL.1B (SG2) AND PENNY RED PL.1C (SG7/SPEC AS8) LETTERED PA. Superb used 1840 1d grey-black pl.1a (SG3) lettered PA, fine to very large margins, very fine red Maltese cross, fine plate wear, showing 5 and 10 o'clock ray flaws NW square and CHECK LETTERS IN ORIGINAL POSITIONS. Matched with fine to very fine 1d black pl.1b (SG2) lettered PA, fine to very fine margins, fine red Maltese cross, 7 and 10 o'clock ray flaws and variety 'CHECK LETTERS RE-CUT AND POSITIONS ALTERED' (Spec AS5c). Very fine used matching penny red from plate 1c (SG7/Spec AS8) accompanies lettered PA also with 'CHECK LETTERS RE-CUT AND POSITIONS ALTERED' and thinner check letters due to plate repair. Penny red with fine margins and small part strike black Maltese cross. A superb trio of exhibition quality (3 items). (Ref 141831).
