64. 1855 wrapper Leeds to Cholet, France with vertical strip of 4 die I 1d stars plate 189 lettered GD/JD, stamps off-centre and other imperfections, tied Leeds sideways duplex 29/JA/1855. (PT) (Ref 53265) £65.00

65. CRIMEAN WAR/POSTAL NOTICE. A very fine notice dated April 1855 entitled 'REDUCTION OF POSTAGE UPON LETTERS ADDRESSED TO THE BALTIC FLEET'. Advising postal charges for Soldiers and Seamen 3d per Žoz or 6d per Ž-½d oz and thereafter 3d for every Žoz. Postage must be paid in advance or letters will not be forwarded. 66. CRIMEAN WAR/POSTAL NOTICE. A very fine example dated May 1855 concerning 'Letters for the British Fleet in the Baltic via DANTZIC'. Advising postal rates 3d Žoz, 6d up to ½oz etc with other procedural details. (*) (Ref 61415) £250.00

67. 1855 envelope from Halstead, Essex to Italy with 1d star cancelled Halstead '334' numeral and Calais transit mark 5/NOV/55. Also on front Sible Hedingham udc in green. Backstamped Halstead NO/4/1855 also in green. Unusual usage. (*) (Ref 55423) £85.00

       

68. CRIMEAN WAR. 1855 letter (no envelope) written on board 'HMS Firefly off Nargen (Baltic Sea) NOV/10/1855'. Contents, part missing?, detail fascinating ship movements and also the exteme boredom and poor weather in maintaining the blockade of Reval. Writer also refers to a meeting with a local Estonian and his transactions with him. Very interesting. (*) (Ref 51729) £175.00

69. CRIMEAN WAR. 1856 large part 'On Her Majesty's Service' wrapper (reduced at both ends) from The Crimea to London, dated 31st March 1856 from Scutari, backstamped London 10/AP/1856. Manuscript within .... 'peace is proclaimed ...'. (*) (Ref 61652) £375.00

       

70. MAIL TO MALTA. 1856 letter London to Malta with 1/- embossed (SG 54), pair of 4d carmine medium garter (SG 64) and 1d star (SG Spec. C6) to Malta tied London '36' numerals. Backstamped NO/25/1856. The 1/- embossed cut into but VERY UNUSUAL COMBINATION WHICH SHOWS THE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF STAMP PRODUCTION THEN IN USE. (*) (Ref 61244) £350.00

71. TRANSATLANTIC MAIL/THREE COLOUR COMBINATION. 1856 entire London to Kingston, Canada with 2d blue (SG 34), 6d deep lilac (SG 69) and 1d star (Spec. C6) tied London '17' numerals. Backstamped Lombard St. 26/DE/1856. (*) (Ref 60439) £175.00

       

72. MAIL TO AUSTRALIA. Circa 1857 wrapper London to Western Australia with 3 x SG 40 plate 56 lettered HD-HF all showing varieties and SG 70 tied London '12' numerals. Stamps paying the 9d Žoz rate via Marseilles. One stamp affected by filing crease. (*) (Ref 57518) £140.00

73. LIVERPOOL 'REGISTERED' SPOON/1856 1/- green (SG 71). Small piece with 1/- green (faults include rounded corner) tied by fine strike of this very scarce spoon FE/21/1857. Rare combination of stamp and cancellation. (*) (Ref 55039) £225.00
