50. FIRST DAY USAGE OF THE 1844 NUMERAL CANCELLATION. Small piece Nottingham to London (stamp 're-affixed') with 1d imperf (SG 8) lettered KL, just touched at lower right, tied fine '583' numeral of Nottingham. Backstamped Nottingham MY/1/1844 - FIRST DAY USAGE. London datestamp 2/MY/1844. Rare. (PT) (Ref 60706) £450.00

51. MISSENT. 1844 entire from Strangeways, Manchester to Tetbury, Glos with three margined 1d imperf (SG 8) tied neat '498' of Manchester. On front fine strike of the oval 'Missent to Glocester' (GL 401 - County Catalogue records usage 1813-1843). On rverse various backstamps for September 1844 including 'Gloucester Station'. 52. 1d IMPERF LLANDOVERY DATESTAMP (SG 8). 1846 wrapper (side flaps removed) Carmarthen to Llandovery with three margined 1d plate 61 lettered EI lightly cancelled 1844 numeral(?) and overstruck by a good strike of the Llandovery datestamp MA/26/1846. Very scarce usage. (*) (Ref 57556) £295.00

53. SOMERSET - DUNSTER UDC WITH MANUSCRIPT DATES WITHIN. Two envelopes, both 1846, Dunster to London with 1d imperfs (SG 8) tied '778' numerals of Taunton both with good to fine strikes of the 'Dunster' udc struck at upper left with manuscript dates within the udc 8th May 1846 and 1st June 1846. Very scarce usage. Recorded in the County Catalogue. (*) (Ref 48651) £125.00

       

54. GREAT WESTERN MAIL. 1846 wrapper, presumably from the US, to Glasgow with manuscript 'P Great Western' manuscript '8' charge mark and on reverse octagonal 'Liverpool Ship' datestamp 24/SP/1846. (*) (Ref 55433) £65.00

55. GREAT WESTERN MAIL. 1846 large part wrapper to London (Huth correspondence) with manuscript 'P Great Western'. On reverse New York forwarding agents cachet and octagonal 'Liverpool Ship' datestamp 25/OC/1846. (*) (Ref 55430) £65.00

       

56. MISSENT TO BATH. 1847 envelope Bristol to Chippenham, Wilts with 1d imperf (SG 8) lettered IB, just touched at lower right, tied neat '134' numeral of Bristol and on front fine strike of the two-line 'Missent to/Bath' (SO 157) in black. (*) (Ref 55928) £95.00

57. 1847 envelope (with letter) Forfar to Dundee - on front handstamp '1' and straight line 'Paid' in red, backstamped Forfar SE/13/1847. (*) (Ref 60030) £19.50

       

58. MONTGOMERYSHIRE/1841 2d BLUE. 1848 letter Llanfyllin to Newtown bearing three margined 2d tied '595' of Oswestry. On reverse fine Llanfyllin udc in black (W 1399) and Oswestry datestamp FE/13/1848. (*) (Ref 45952) £75.00

TRANSATLANTIC/CACHET. 1848 letter from Montreal dated 7th October to Dundee, carried privately, and then entered into the UK mail with 1d imperf (cut into) tied Dundee '114' and at left very fine cachet of 'P.Just/Mercht/Dundee'. 60. IPSWICH UNIFORM PENNY POST HANDSTAMP (SK 216/216b?). 1849 letter Ipswich to Colchester with good to fine strike of this distinctive handstamp in red with single outside ring but '1' 4mm. On front Ipswich datestamp DE/9/1849. (*) (Ref 57917) £40.00

61. BLUE '68' NUMERAL OF BEWDLEY (Worcs) ON COVER (Spec. B1xb). Cat. £225.00. Fine clean envelope Bewdley to Henley-in-Arden with four margined 1d imperf plate 92 lettered QK (SG 8) tied very fine strike of the coloured numeral, backstamped Bewdley MY/3/1850 . (*) (Ref 43287) £140.00

       

62. TRANSATLANTIC MAIL. 1851 envelope Stourport (one flap missing) to New York, USA with three margined 1d imperf (SG 8) tied by numeral cancel. On front Boston receiver and '19'cents' handstamp. Backstamped Stourport AP/12/1851. (*) (Ref 52145) £140.00

63. HASTINGS 'Paid/1d Uniform Penny Post' handstamp in orange (SX 630). 1851 envelope Hastings to London with fine strike and alongside a good strike of the Hastings 'Paid H G' handstamp 16/JU/1851. (*) (Ref 43358) £55.00

       

64. REGISTERED MAIL. 1852 wrapper Leeds to Kendal bearing 1d imperf, three margins, and strip of 3 2d blue plate 4 lettered PD-PF, PD cut into, stamps tied '447' numerals of Leeds, manuscript 'Registered' at upper left. Backstamped Leeds JY/1/1852. (*) (Ref 45961) £195.00

LONDON DISTRICT BRANCH OFFICE - INSPECTOR'S MARK FOR POSTAL SORTING. 1853 1d pink envelope used locally in London and MISDIRECTED from Cavendish Square to Hanover Square with manuscript 'CX' and fine strike of the Inspector's 'O.C.S.' mark of Old Cavendish Square. Backstamped JU/6/1853. (*) (Ref 43311) £75.00

       

66. POSTAL STATIONERY. 1853 1d pink envelope from London to Broadway, Worcestershire uprated with 2d blue plate 4 (SG 14) lettered MG. 2d blue cut-into but both cancelled London '13' numerals. On reverse 'Red Lion St' London receiver and London datestamp AU/16/1853. A very scarce combination. (*) (Ref 56304) £175.00

67. EMBOSSED ENVELOPE. 1854 envelope to Dumfries with fine four margined 1d imperf (SG 8) plate 157 lettered PJ with good to very large margins tied Scots numeral. Backstamped Dumfries JA/9/1854 with on front at upper centre superb embossed emblem of 'Veitch of Eliock/Sanquhar'. Most unusual. (*) (Ref 51670) £75.00

       

68. 1d imperf (SG 8)/LIVERPOOL SPOON. 1854 envelope Liverpool to London with 1d imperf plate 155 in STATE II, just shaved at upper left, tied very fine strike of Liverpool spoon 2/JU/1854 stamp lettered BA, corner bend at upper left but a very attractive usage showing the thinner check letters following plate repair. 69. DUPLEX/NUMERAL ON REDIRECTED WRAPPER USED IN 1854. 1854 printed circular Ripon to Leeds with SG 17 lettered OC tied '646' numeral of Ripon forwarded from Leeds to London with another SG 17 tied Leeds duplex 26/JU/1854. On reverse 'Seacroft' udc. Superb usage showing the introduction of the sideways duplex as alternative cancellation. (*) (Ref 58268) £175.00
