62. REGISTERED MAIL/THREE COLOUR COMBINATION. 1861 envelope London to Paris with pair of 4d carmine (SG 66), 6d lilac (SG 69) and 2d blue plate 8 (SG 45) tied London '24' numerals with London 'Crown/Registered' handstamp, straight line 'charge' handstamp and various other cancellations including London registered 12/SP/61. Stamps paying 8d ½doz rate and 8d registration (4d per ¬oz) Very attractive. (*) (Ref 60474) £400.00

63. 'OXFORD UNION SOCIETY' UNOFFICIAL OVERPRINT Type 45 in red reading upwards on 1861 die II alp IV plate 50 USED ON COVER (Spec. PP149 SG 42). 1861 envelope Oxford to Leeds with very fine 1d lettered GE with very fine overprint tied Oxford duplex NO/2/61. Backstamped Leeds NO/3/61. Envelope small fault but very scarce usage. 64. 1862 'INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION' DUPLEX. 1862 envelope London to France with 4d pale red (SG 79) tied fine strike of the 'International Exhibition.W/IE/WEST' duplex OC/1/62. On reverse various French receivers and flap bears printed emblem of the 'Railway Enquiry Office'. (*) (Ref 58265) £375.00

65. MAIL TO ADEN. 1863 envelope London to a soldier in Aden with SG 83 cancelled London duplex JY/25/63. Rear flap missing, Aden receiver on reverse 17/AU/63, stamp paying 6d ½oz rate via Southampton. Unusual destination. (*) (Ref 60429) £175.00

   

66. REGISTERED/TRANSATLANTIC MAIL. 1864 wrapper London to St. Catherine's, Canada West with 6d lilac (SG 84), 4d pale red (SG 80) - corner fault - and 2d blue plate 9 (SG 45) tied London numerals with various registered handstamps on front and Canadian receivers on reverse. Stamps paying 6d postage and 6d registration. Backstamped FE.6.1864. Unusual franking. (*) (Ref 60438) £225.00

67. UNDER-PAID MAIL TO ITALY. 1864 letter Carlisle to Rome with 6d lilac (SG 83) tied neat Carlisle duplex SP/1/64 with circular 'PD' overstruck by 'T.O.1' Inspector's mark and with two-lined 'Insufficiently/Prepaid' handstamp in black. Various other transit marks etc. Very fine usage. (*) (Ref 60445) £175.00

   

68. INSTRUCTIONAL MARKING. 1865 envelope London to Ingersoll, Canada West with 6d plate 5 (SG 97) tied London duplex MY/5/65. Slight creasing but a fine selection of instructional marks 'Insufficiently/Prepaid' two-line, '2' handstamp and 'Unpaid5' all struck in black. Hamilton receiver on reverse MY/18/1865. 69. PRINTED MATTER. 1866 very fine printed Prices Current with market report by H.Clarkson & Co. of London to Cadiz with 2d blue plate 9 (SG 45) tied London numeral. Backstamped Cadiz 17/FEB/1866. (*) (Ref 57943) £75.00

   

70. MAE WEST 'TOO LATE' HANDSTAMP. 1866 letter Kirkcaldy to Edinburgh with 1d plate 81 tied neat Kirkcaldy duplex FE/24/66 with very fine strike of this ornate 'Too Late' handstamp alongside - latter just affected by filing fold but a clean and attractive usage. (*) (Ref 53534) £75.00

71. THE EXETER 'CRESSWELL' EXPERIMENTAL DUPLEX. 1866 envelope Exeter to Ashburton with 1d plate 74 (SG 43) lettered DF, several clipped perfs, tied fine strike of this much smaller duplex MY.24.66. Envelope slight imperfections. (*) (Ref 60570) £40.00

   

72. 1867 mail Fairford (Glos.) to Sierra Leone West Africa. 1867 env. (flap damaged) with 6d lilac (SG 104), trimmed perfs at right, lettered ED tied '294' Fairford numeral, Fairford cds AP/20/67 alongside. Addressed to 'E. Locke Co. of African Merchants Water Street Free Town Sierra Leone W.C. Africa'. On front local handstamp '1' and backstamped Sierra Leone MY/9/1867. Rare destination mail. (*) (Ref 55051) £550.00

73. LEITH DUPLEX USED AS A RECEIVING MARK. 1867 envelope Hull to Leith with pair of 1d plate 74 (SG 43) tied Hull duplex' SP/28/67. On reverse fine strike of the Leith '221' duplex SP/30/67 used as a receiver. (*) (Ref 53221) £12.50

   

74. JERSEY. 1867 large part wrapper Jersey to St. Brieux with pair of 2d blue plate 9 (SG 45) tied Jersey duplex' NO/20/67. On front circular 'PD' (paid to destination) and St. Malo datestamp. Fine usage. (*) (Ref 60472) £130.00

75. 'POSTED SINCE 10 LAST NIGHT' EDINBURGH EXPERIMENTAL DUPLEX (RA 25). 1868 envelope Edinburgh to Ottawa, Canada West with 1/- green plate 4 (SG 115) tied fine strike SP/28/68. Filing bend affects stamp and cancel but a very rare combination not seen by us before and unrecorded by Arundel who only notes this cancellation on the 1d plate number and the 3d plate 5. 76. NAVAL MAIL. 1869 envelope addressed to Miss French Queens County Ireland with strip of 6 1d strip plate 117 (SG 43) tied London 'B' cancels with 'Paid London Ship Letter' cds JA/15/69. Endorsed 'Officers Letter' and from Mid-Shipman F.P. Trench serving in HMS Defence at Cadiz. Very fine usage. (*) (Ref 54815) £350.00

77. IRISH BACKSTAMP CANCELLING STAMP. 1869 envelope Swinford (Co. Mayo/Ireland) to Tara (Co. Down) bearing 1864 1d plate 113 (SG 43) tied Swinford datestamp JA/22/69. SCARCE and attractive usage. (*) (Ref 28008) £55.00
