37. 1851 envelope Bradford (Yorks) to Lille, France, postage not prepaid. On front Bradford, Yorks datestamps NO/14/1851 with Calais transit mark a day later and handstamp '8' postal charge. (*) (Ref 59433) £35.00

38. BELFAST SPLIT '62' NUMERAL. 1853 1d pink envelope Belfast to Dublin with fine strike clearly showing the distinctive break. Unusual postmark on the 1d pink. (*) (Ref 45274) £45.00

       

39. CRIMEAN WAR. 1855 envelope, with letter, written aboard ship 'off Odessa' dated October 19th 1855 addressed to Kettering with manuscript 'from Bk.Sea Fleet' (Black Sea) with manuscript '3' postage paid and Kettering datestamp in green NO/1/1855. Fascinating letter refers to attack on Kinburn 'we have got about 9000 troops with us'. (*) (Ref 51723) £275.00

40. IRELAND. 1855 envelope Carlow to Leighlin Bridge with die II 1d star (SG 24) tied Irish numeral. On reverse good strike of the 'Ardatton/Carlow' two-line receiver in blue and backstamped Carlow DE/24/1855. (*) (Ref 59581) £65.00

SG 63 USED ON COVER (Fine used cats. £650.00). 1856 wrapper, some creasing, used locally in Edinburgh with good 4d carmine watermark medium garter, several short perfs, tied Edinburgh '131' roller with bars. On reverse Edinburgh 'Posted since 7.20 last night' datestamp MR/18/1856. (*) (Ref 57011) £225.00

42. DUBLIN SPOON Type A5 (RA 67) - 2d BLUE USAGE. 1856 wrapper Dublin to Edinburgh with 2d star plate 5 (SG 34) lettered AA (placed upside down) tied good strike SE/4/56 - this spoon unrecorded on the 2d star by Arundel. (*) (Ref 53449) £110.00

   

43. DUBLIN SPOON Type A8 (RA 70). 1857 envelope Dublin to Bridport with SG 40 tied fine strike JU/1/57, stamp with faults including pin holes. (*) (Ref 53451) £25.00

44. 1857 entire Liverpool to France, postage prepaid in cash, with manuscript '4' and 'Liverpool/JY201857/Paid' datestamp. Also Calais, Paris and Vichy French transit marks. (*) (Ref 59439) £22.50

   

45. THE 'IMPOSSIBLE ½d' RATE TO SAN FRANCISCO. 1857 wrapper Glasgow to San Francisco, California with neat Glasgow 'Paid' datestamp SE/25/57 and manuscript '1/2½d' single rate to San Francisco. An odd rate which could not be prepaid in stamps as there were no ½d stamps available until 1870. Scarce rate. (*) (Ref 59441) £140.00

46. 1857 THREE COLOUR COMBINATION Glasgow to Naples. Wrapper with 1d star (SG 40), 4d carmine (SG 66) and 6d deep lilac (SG 69) cancelled neat Glasgow duplex'. The 4d cancelled with cds portion only NO/27/57 - stamps slight imperfections but a very attractive usage. (*) (Ref 54076) £225.00

   

47. EDINBURGH DOTTED CIRCLE Type A1. Small group comprising two envelopes and one piece bearing 1 x SG 36 (perf 16) and 2 x SG 40 cancelled in 1858, various codes. (*) (Ref 44138) £40.00

48. OSWESTRY SPOON (Arundel 110). 1859 envelope Oswestry to Ellesmere bearing SG 40 tied very fine strike JY/1/1859 Code B. (*) (Ref 42806) £65.00

MAIL TO INDIA. 1860 envelope Staplehurst (Kent) to a member of the Cavalry in East Indies (India) with strip of 3 1d plates (SG 40) lettered GA-GC and 6d pale lilac (SG 70) tied '939' duplex' of Staplehurst NO/2/60. On reverse Indian receivers. Stamps paying 9d ¬oz rate via Marseilles and Bombay. Fine usage. (*) (Ref 57027) £140.00

50. GREENOCK DOTTED CIRCLE. 1865 entire Greenock to Portugal with 1/- green (SG 101 cats. £350.00 on cover) tied very fine strike of the Greenock dotted circle Type 2 (RA36) SP/21/65 Code D1. A very scarce and attractive usage. (*) (Ref 59575) £225.00

   

51. 1866 MAIL TO AMSTERDAM. Envelope London to Amsterdam with strip of 3 1d plate 94 (SG 43) lettered DC-DE tied London 'N17' duplex' JY/21/66 with 'DC' solely cancelled by London cds. On reverse Amsterdam receiver. Envelope slight creasing - stamps paying the 3d ¬oz rate via Belgium. (*) (Ref 59546) £110.00

52. 'GLASGOW BARREL' DUPLEX. 1868 envelope Glasgow to Dalkieth with 1d plate 76 (SG 43) lettered BA tied very fine strike 2/JY/68. Filing crease affects stamp but seldom offered cancellation. (*) (Ref 57661) £125.00

   

53. BRUNSWICK STAR (Arundel Type 16). 1869 clean envelope Edinburgh to Annan with 1d plate 117 lettered TB tied very fine strike SP/4/69. (*) (Ref 58982) £30.00

54. EDINBURGH 'POSTED SINCE 10 LAST NIGHT'/'131' DUPLEX (RA 25). 1869 wrapper used locally in Edinburgh with fine 1d plate 117 (SG 43) tied slightly indistinct strike NO/4/69. (*) (Ref 52622) £30.00

   

55. EDINBURGH DOTTED CIRCLES Type A3/A5 & B2. Five pieces all bearing SG 43's tied very fine strikes. (*) (Ref 40880) £30.00

56. 1870 wrapper London to Stockholm with 'Lombard Street/Paid/13JA70' datestamp - also on front manuscript '6' oval 'PD' and Swedish '3d' accountancy handstamp all in red. (*) (Ref 59438) £45.00
