63. SG 40 BLOCK OF 6 USED ON COVER. 1860(?) envelope London to Carshalton with block of 6 die II plate 49 lettered AE/BG, slight perf separation, tied London 'W20' numerals with London backstamp. Several stamps showing constant varieties. (*) (Ref 56975) £160.00

64. 'MISSENT TO GREENOCK' BOXED HANDSTAMP IN BLUE-GREEN. 1860 envelope from Glasgow clearly addressed to Paisley with fine SG 40 tied neat Glasgow duplex MY/3/60 with very fine strike of this instructional handstamp in blue-green alongside. Clean and attractive usage. (*) (Ref 53432) £140.00

   

65. MAIL TO INDIA. 1860 envelope London to Calcutta with 2d plate 8 (SG 45), 6d (SG 69) and 1d star plate 62 (SG 40), latter perfs trimmed at right and contemporary manuscript but attractive three colour franking tied London duplex' JU/2/60. (*) (Ref 57032) £110.00

66. 1860 envelope, some imperfections and originally with 'Over Seers of the Parish' printed imprint which has been crossed through from Newton Abbot to Ashburton with two pairs SG 40 plate 49 lettered BI/BJ and IK/IL tied Newton abbot sideways duplex' JY/6/1860. Two stamps affected filing crease and one with surface scuff. (*) (Ref 56981) £55.00

     

67. PEARSON HILL 'No 3' EXPERIMENTAL DUPLEX/TRANSATLANTIC. 1860 stampless wrapper London to New York with fine strike of this experimental cancellation SP/19/60. On front '24' and '3c' US charge marks. Slight toning but unusual. (*) (Ref 59052) £95.00

INSTRUCTIONAL MARK. 1861 front, damaged and officially repaired, with 'Western District Post Office' wax seal and good strike of the 'Received Open and Resealed/at the W.District Office' handstamp on front. Used locally in London with SG 40 plate 43 lettered PD tied London duplex MY/2/61. (*) (Ref 56851) £45.00

     

69. MAIL TO INDIA. 1861 envelope Edinburgh to North West Provinces, India with 2d plate 8 (SG 45), 6d pale lilac (SG 70) and 1d star (SG 40) plate 36 lettered SB tied Edinburgh duplex' MY/17/61. On reverse 'Agra' receiver JU/14. 2d blue corner fault but attractive three colour combination. (*) (Ref 57031) £130.00

70. 1861 envelope Forfar (Scotland) to Victoria, Australia (via Marseilles) with 2 x 4d carmine large garter (SG 66) and 1d star (SG 40) tied Forfar duplex SP/25/61 with one of the 4d solely cancelled with cds part of duplex. Stamps paying the 9d ¬oz rate. Two stamps affected by filing folds but attractive usage. (*) (Ref 58294) £175.00


71. MAIL TO MAURITIUS. 1861 envelope Worcester to Mauritius with SG 40 x 2 plate 48 and 4d carmine (SG 66) endorsed 'via Marseilles', tied Worcester duplex' OC/10/61. Presumably underpaid 9d ¬oz rate. (*) (Ref 57057) £150.00

POSTAGE DUE/TRANSATLANTIC MAIL. 1861 envelope Castle Douglas (Scotland) to Broadway, New York with 4d carmine and 2 x 1d SG 40 plate 57 tied Castle Douglas duplex' OC/25/61. 4d affected by filing fold and envelope some wrinkling. Postage underpaid and 'Insufficiently/Stamped' handstamp on front. (*) (Ref 56184) £55.00

LATE FEE/IRELAND. 1862 envelope, slight imperfections, Dublin to Cork with 5 x 1d stars die II plate 41 (SG 40) - a single lettered DI and a good to fine block of 4 lettered EH/FI cancelled Dublin duplex' JA/2/1862. EI shows constant variety (faint). Envelope slightly reduced at left but on front has fine strike of the boxed 'Late Letter/Fee Paid' handstamp in red. (*) (Ref 56982) £175.00

74. REGISTERED MAIL. 1862 Mourning envelope Diss (Norfolk) to Ixworth with 2 x 1d stars (SG 40) and very fine 3d rose-carmine (SG 77) tied '254' numerals of Diss with Diss cds DE/22/62. Clean and attractive usage, paying 1d postage and 4d registration. (*) (Ref 56006) £300.00

       

75. PRINTED MATTER. 1864 printed circular re prices of iron Liverpool to Paris with SG 40 plate 41 lettered KC tied Liverpool duplex 13/FE/64. Filing fold well clear of stamp. (*) (Ref 57192) £40.00

76. 1865 envelope London to Berlin with 1d plate 90 (SG 43), 4d pale red (SG 82) and 2d blue plate 9 (SG 45) tied London duplex' MR/4/65. Envelope with imperfections but an attractive three-colour combination. Stamps presumably paying the 6d ¬oz rate via Belgium and 1d late fee. (*) (Ref 50247) £150.00

       

77. MAE WEST 'TOO LATE' HANDSTAMP. 1866 letter Kirkcaldy to Edinburgh with 1d plate 81 tied neat Kirkcaldy duplex FE/24/66 with very fine strike of this ornate 'Too Late' handstamp alongside - latter just affected by filing fold but a clean and attractive usage. (*) (Ref 53534) £75.00

RAILWAYS/REDIRECTED MAIL. 1866 envelope Fairford (Glos.) to Bournemouth with pair of 1d plate 89 (SG 43) tied '294' numerals of Fairford REDIRECTED to Bristol with manuscript '2' postal charge and thence REDIRECTED AGAIN to Winchester with pair of 1d plates 83 tied Bristol duplex' with local 'Redcliffe Bristol' MY/15/66. ON REVERSE SUPERB STRIKE OF THE 'POR SC' WITHIN STAR railway handstamp. (*) (Ref 55056) £225.00

       

79. ADVERTISING. 1869 envelope from London to Farnham, Surrey with 1d plate 76 tied London 'W39' duplex JU/2/69. Envelope printed in blue, very minor fault at top, on reverse superb printed engraving of the premises of 'Peter Robinson' (departmental store of west London). (*) (Ref 59116) £95.00

80. THE CLOTH COVERED DUPLEX OF BRISTOL. 1869 wrapper Bristol to Poole with 1d plate 125 (SG 43) lettered OF tied good strike of this unusual duplex SP/2/69. A cancellation experiment made to reduce ink usage. (*) (Ref 51358) £45.00
