30. THE RUBY MALTESE CROSS OF ABERDEEN. 1840 wrapper Aberdeen to Edinburgh with three margined 1d grey-black plate 2 lettered QE tied fine M.C. clearly in the ruby shade (Spec. A1ve). Stamp shows 7 & 10 o'clock ray flaws. Filing fold clear of stamp, backstamped Aberdeen JUL/16/1840. One of the best ruby M.C.'s we have seen which in fine condition cats. £2800.00. 31. 1d BLACK/CORK USAGE. 1840 wrapper from Cork to Bristol with very fine INTENSE BLACK (SG 1) plate 8 lettered MF, stamp shows 'O' FLAW and extension at S.E. frame, tied red M.C. and on front a good strike of the boxed 'C' local receiving house handstamp of Cork in black. Backstamped Cork NO/10/1840, Waterford NO/11/1840 and Bristol NO/12/1840. Letter having travelled Waterford to Bristol crossing. (*) (Ref 55020) £350.00

   

32. SOMERSET. 1841 letter Weston-super-Mare (personal contents re travelling Swiss lakes etc) to Italy dated March 24th 1841 with 'Cross' datestamp MR/24/1841 and local receiver with fine selection of continental datestamps and charge marks. (*) (Ref 59106) £30.00

33. TOWN CANCELLATION. 1842 large part wrapper Dorchester to Blandford with four margined 1d imperf lettered AF, corner bends and slight surface rubbing, tied very fine strike of the Dorchester 'Wessex-type' town cancellation FE/26/1842 in black. Backstamped Blandford same day (Spec. B1va). In fine condition cats. £2200.00. (A) (Ref 56862) £1100.00

     

34. SIGNATURE OF PRINCE ALBERT. 1843 letter written and signed by Albert 'Buckingham Palace July 11 1843'. Written to Lord Roberts regarding the health of Lady Roberts 'I have communicated the happy intelligence to the Queen'. Albert's signature much much scarcer than that of Queen Victoria. 35. LONDON NUMBER '10' IN MALTESE CROSS (Spec. B1uj). 1843 entire London to Hadlow (Kent) with fine four margined 1d imperf (SG 8) lettered CA plate 32 tied very fine upright strike. S.G. cat. £750.00! Filing fold well clear of stamp and cancel, backstamped JU/16/1843. (*) (Ref 55643) £375.00

     

36. UNDERPAID MAIL. 1843 wrapper Colchester to Clapham with four margined 1d imperf plate 32 (SG 8) with four margins lettered LD tied black M.C. Stamp just affected by filing fold but shows fine EXTENDED SERIF TO 'L'. Postage underpaid with manuscript 'Over ½d oz 2 More to Pay', backstamped Colchester NO/20/1843. (*) (Ref 56758) £45.00

37. THE KELSO MALTESE CROSS (Spec. B1ti). 1844 letter from Kelso Mail Office to Hawick with 1d imperf plate 38 (SG 8), very close but clear four margins affected by filing crease, stamp lettered LA tied fine strike of this scarce M.C. Backstamped AP/1/1844. Fine used cats. £800.00. (*) (Ref 51290) £300.00


38. THE DISTINCTIVE MALTESE CROSS OF STIRLING. 1844 1d pink envelope from Stirling to Culross with very fine to superb strike of this distinctive and very scarce M.C. Backstamped Stirling JN/6/1844 - Alcock records latest usage April 1844. Very fine and attractive usage. (*) (Ref 51283) £350.00

39. WORCESTER/MISSENT. 1845 1d pink envelope Manchester to Middle Hill, Worcs (Phillipps correspondence) cancelled '498' numeral of Manchester. Backstamped JA/20/1845 with manuscript on front 'Mifsent to' with large-type 'Shipston-on-Stour' datestamp JA/21/1845 (WO 628). (*) (Ref 59097) £30.00

       

40. IRELAND. 1847 envelope Dalkey to Leighlinbridge with fine strike of the straight line 'Dalkey' in blue-green and 'Paid' datestamp SE/27/1847, slight creasing. (*) (Ref 55904) £25.00

41. POSTAGE DUE. 1849 wrapper from Coutts, London to Royal Bank of Scotland Edinburgh with three margined 1841 2d blue (SG 14) tied London numeral with manuscript 'Above 1oz' and 'More to Pay' handstamp and surcharge '4'. Backstamped Charing Cross 26/SP/1849 . (*) (Ref 57752) £55.00
