1841 LEGACY DUTY DEPARTMENT LETTER LONDON TO 'WITTERSHAM, TENTERDEN' BUT INCORRECTLY ADDRESSED AND 'WITTERSHAM/PENNY POST' HAND STAMPS (KT1358). Fine 'Legacy Duty Department' entire printed letter sent 'OHMS' from London to 'Mr. Thos Martin Senr, Shoemaker, Wittersham, Tenterden, Kent' with good strike 'CROWN/PAID' London date stamp 18 JU 1841. Incorrectly addressed with 'Tenterden' crossed through and two good to fine strikes of the scarce 'Wittersham/Penny Post' hand stamp in black (KT1358). County catalogue records this hand stamp 1842-1849, these predate by 1 year. Also on front manuscript 'Not ... delivery Kent' with fine large part strike 'TENTERDEN' date stamp JU 19 1841 struck within manuscript instructional. Fine and unusual usage. (Ref 129916).
