  • Description

1936 REPRINT FROM THE ORIGINAL PERKINS BACON PLATE FOR THE BACKGROUND OF THE LINE ENGRAVED ISSUES (SPEC DP9c). A very fine example of the 1936 reprint taken from the original plate brought over from the US by Perkins Bacon in 1822 and used by them in an attempt to secure the banknote printing contract. The central vertical band was subsequently used as the background for all GB 1d blacks, reds and twopenny blues. This is a reprint in purple (139 x 217), on reverse 'THE CALEDONIAN PHILATELIC SOCIETY/LIBRARY' hand stamp in purple. Very fine item and an excellent piece with which to open a display or exhibit of the GB line engraved issues. (Ref 131100).
